Does this thing still work? Do I even remember how to blog? Hopefully it’s like riding a bike because my god I haven’t done this in awhile. I probably can’t ride a bike anymore either though, I feel like that involves way too much exertion. I don’t really have a good excuse for ignoring the blog, especially because I’ve had a lot of free time lately as I’m on sick leave from work. But I guess there’s just been a combination of being tired, getting a 30 day trial of Shomi, and then the Canadian release of Pokemon Go. So today I have forced myself to set aside some time from my “very busy schedule” catching zubats and pidgeys to finally give this site some long overdo lovin’.
Let’s see. What has happened since the last time we chatted?
I guess I’ll jump right to the face paralysis. In early June I got super sick and half of my face was paralyzed. It wasn’t very noticeable unless I smiled, which is something I do a lot of. So when I smiled half of my face went into a huge grin and the other half just sat there like “nope, I don’t get paid enough to do that.” It stuck around for a couple weeks but eventually it got better. I’m really glad it got better, not just because it’s a huge bummer to have half of your face paralyzed and to spill water out of your mouth all the time, but also because boyfriend probably couldn’t handle many more days of me smiling at him every 10 minutes and asking “HOW ABOUT NOW? IS IT BETTER?!” Poor guy.
Anyway, all of my muscles stopped being muscley again and I got super weak so now the doctors think I have some sort of neuro-muscular disease on top of lupus. And that’s really cool because I was worried that lupus was going to get lonely and was actually recently thinking how I should get another disease just so lupus could have someone to hang out with all the time. In all honesty though, it’s not a real shock that I probably have a neuro-muscular disease because lupus does attract disease friends, and I’ve been having weird muscle issues for years. My muscles love to do this thing where they totally trick me into believing that they are normal, working muscles, so I get really excited and go out and do all sorts of things to take advantage of it, and then they just crumble to dust and I fall over (not literally, mom). Last year I walked around Disney World for 7 days feeling amazing and then when I got home I couldn’t even stand up out of a seated position or climb the stairs for a few weeks. It was a real joy.
So now that my muscles have turned to liquid and I’ve been diagnosed with some form of boneitis I just sit at home all day trying to find ways to pass the time. I’ve been reading a lot of books lately. I’ve actually been taking part in a book exchange on Facebook with friends and friends of friends. So far I’ve received 9 books! I figured now would be a great time to take part in it because I certainly have lots of free time for reading. Earlier this month I read 6 books in 8 days because I challenged myself to read one book a day for a week. So I only failed a tiny bit. It’s fun to give myself crazy hard challenges to complete, like “try to walk up and down the stairs just twice in a whole day.” Talk about unrealistic goals.
When I’m not reading or binge-watching tv shows on Shomi (don’t even get me started on how shitty their app is) I’m usually playing Pokemon Go. The game has surprisingly gotten me out of my bed and out for walks way more than I expected. It seems to be great for people with chronic illnesses who need to move more, and it’s also great for people who get a real pleasure out of renaming Pokemon after celebrities. Eevee Mendes! Paras Hilton! The word play possibilities are endless! Also, if you enjoy being yelled at and made fun of by grown men driving by in their cars, you should really take up Pokemon Go. Childish verbal abuse aside, I’ve read a bunch of posts on tumblr about how Pokemon Go is helping a lot of people out, and I think that is so cool. I will need to give it a break soon though, as I’m not huge into video type games and it’s already starting to get a bit old for me. I’m not sure if it will stand the test of time like Double Down Casino slot machine games on Facebook. Also all of the outdoorness and that sunshine stuff has caused 3 days of crushing fatigue in a row for me this week. But let’s be real for a second, I probably won’t give up until I find a Pikachu.
This blog post is really leading nowhere so I will end it with a plea from me to you. What should I do in my spare time to save myself from the torturous boredom that I will inevitably feel? Should I learn a new language? Try out a new hobby that involves little to no muscle movement? Perhaps master the art of telepathy? Is there an amazing book, television show or movie you could recommend? Is the television show Catastrophe? Because if it is I’ve already watched it a million times but I love you for suggesting it.
